COVID-19 had been the dominant story, occupying most of the media’s attention, until the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The ensuing protests and riots reaching the four corners of the globe, business destroyed, tremendous looting, people beaten, and some killed. Professional athletes turning against each other because of an untimely comment. All of this happening during the whole Corona pandemic . Coincidence, I don’t think so.
Just the other day I read of several well known Republican TV, radio and on-line pundits saying how difficult it will be for President Trump to be re-elected because of the perceived way that he has handled the two issues spoken of here. Regardless of the forces behind the effort to unseat Trump, both physical and spiritual, he is trailing the apparent Democratic nominee, Joe Biden in almost all the poles.
Yes, we went to bed on Election Day 2016 expecting Hillary Clinton, and woke up with President Trump. But what does this have to do with Israel anyway? The “Deal Of The Century”, president Trump’s plan for the perfect solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Because of the distraction of the Covid-19 pandemic and race riots, very little is being spoken or written about in the U.S. media regarding the “peace plan”.
No one ever imaged that Trump’s peace plan would have allowed for a creation of a Palestinian state, but it does. Trump had drawn accolades from the Israeli’s for his three moves: the relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan and recognition of Israel’s historic rights to territory in the West Bank, also known as Israel’s biblical heart land of Judea and Samaria, but the rhetoric from many of Israel’s parliament leaders now are quite different. Trump is “not a friend of Israel” and warning that it would be a “disaster for Israel” is the new mantra.
What many of us are concerned about is the warning given in Joel 3 of the judgment for dividing the land. Just in our short 20+ years in Israel, we have seen numerous judgments dished out for those leaders and countries who have attempted to physically divide the country into two nations.
President Trump might be able to overcome the pandemic & race riot obstacle , but the creation of a Palestinian state could be his downfall, and a disaster for both Israel and the United States. We need to be praying for “The Death Of The Deal Of The Century”.
On a lighter note, no firm announcement by Israel regarding a firm date to reopen the airport and allow International flights. They initially talked about July, which now has been pushed to August. We are sitting tight, staying busy, waiting for a breakthrough.
We had an opportunity to bless a young local family who were employed and living at the “Jerusalem Hills Inn just up the road from us in Abu Gosh. Owned and operated by Jewish believers for the last ten years, they were forced to shut down due to no tourists. The Levine’s found themselves and their two small children homeless and without work. They have been with us for two weeks, and have found a place to live, and will be leaving in a few days. Bess has been in seventh heaven having a four-year old and an eleven month old around. I refuse to comment on the grounds that I might lose the blessing! They are pictured below.
