“It is by the Lord’s covenant love that we are not destroyed, because His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore I will hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good to hope for the salvation of the Lord, even in silence. “ - Lamentations 3:22-26
What a great verse to make personal for unsaved Jews at this time. One of my favorite portions of scripture appears in the Book of Acts, referring to Paul’s journey to Berea. It picks up in Chapter 17, beginning in verse 11.
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Throughout eternity those in Berea who believed will be remembered for Luke’s inspired description of their mindset, setting them apart as high examples to be emulated. Luke’s actual word is eugenesteres. The Greek implies excellence or exceptional goodness. We still use it in English today in words like eulogy, euphemistic, euphoria, euphemism, etc. to indicate high or superlative quality.
Although they gladly received Paul’s message, they did not gullibly swallow it hook, line and sinker. Apparently they also wisely felt the need to personally check out what Paul was saying against a higher standard of truth, the Holy Scriptures of their day.
Our prayer for our unsaved family, friends, and those that the Lord puts before us is that they will acquire the “hearts of the Bereans”…Lord, bring us “souls who seek him”, those of “noble character”.
My latest YouTube video has received over 1,000 views on FaceBook. The video appears below.
We estimate that about 5% of the viewers are unsaved Jewish people.
Feel free to forward it to your Jewish friends, family, and associates.
Today, August 1st. Jewish people around the world will mourn Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the fifth month of the Hebrew calendar year. Many of you don’t know that a lot of bad things have happened to the Jewish people on this date, the first of which was when the spies returned with an evil report of Canaan, the Promised Land, recounted in Numbers 13 and 14. Both the first and the second Temple were destroyed on this exact date, hundreds of years apart. The Crusades began on this day in 1095. The Jews were expelled out of England on this day in 1290, and again were expelled from Spain and Portugal on Tisha B’Av in 1492. And there are many more examples of this infamous day in Jewish history!
But God’s judgments are almost always tempered with His mercy and grace, for one constant purpose — and that is to bring people back to Himself! Israel’s idolatry brought God’s judgment upon her. As the Jewish people around the world are fasting in preparation for the observance of this “day of judgment”, what a great way to remind our Jewish brothers and sisters, of God’s steadfast love and compassion for his people.
In exactly one month, the Mission Team from Calvary Aurora will be joining us for ten days.
Please keep them in prayer for safety and for divine appointments, as we will be serving many organizations with opportunities to “let our light shine”.
The Team has created T-shirts with Proverbs 25:25 in Hebrew & English.
“As cold water to a weary soul, so is Good News from a far country…WOW!!!
