Confrontation in the Old City

June 2016 Newsletter

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free - Ephesians 6:7-8

The Mission Team from Calvary South Denver are heading back to Colorado, but not before leaving their mark on Israel. It was the first time in the Land for all except one. They made every day count, truly fulfilling the above verse….In Spades !

The Team served alongside six different ministries, and still had time to visit a museum, tour the Galilee, including a boat ride on the Kinneret (Sea Of Galilee), climb the hills of Ein Gedi, take a dip in the Dead Sea, and of course explore the Old City of Jerusalem. Oh yes, and plenty of time for shopping.

Praying with some of the victims of terror that have plagued Israel for months at the Sheva Hospital in Tel HaShomer was one of the highlights.

Pictured above is Alon, an IDF soldier who was the victim of a car ramming.

We had an interesting confrontation during the Festival of Lights in the Old City.

We were serving at the Christ Church where hundreds and hundreds of Israeli’s were passing through our gates visiting the compound, where they were offered refreshments and a smile. Bibles in every language were available free of charge.

The two gentlemen above were attempting to divert the crowds past the Church.

They had the audacity to claim that we were Missionaries!

It got a little crazy and out of hand for awhile…the Police came, and things settled down….we scared them away with our camera’s.

We served at two new ministries during the week. “Ocean Of Love” in the seaside community of Bat Yam, which has been serving the poor & needy for over 20 years with food & clothing.

We also served in the “Bustan” in beautiful Ein Kerem, the home of “John Who’s Not a Baptist.” The scenic park needs constant maintenance. We are building a solid relationship with the husband & wife team that oversee the project. They are not believers…Pray for them.

Today, in Tel Aviv, a crowd of over 200,000 assembled for the annual Gay Pride Parade. (see photo) Hundreds of police officers and volunteers were dispatched to help secure the march. Cars were banned from parking along the route of the parade, and traffic was redirected.

Perhaps even more heartbreaking, the International Association of Conservative Rabbis passed a resolution declaring its embrace of transgender people, and called on Jewish institutions and government agencies to ensure their full equality. Please pray for God’s mercy, and a revelation of the Word Of God, to the “People of the Book”.

On a positive note..a real “Praise The Lord”, we have negotiated a 2-year lease on a very large home in the hills surrounding Jerusalem. The home has 6 bedrooms, 3 full baths…350 meters…about 3500 square feet. It will be ideal for larger teams, and serve as an incredible “Retreat”, as well as a Bed & Breakfast.

God is good……Thank You Lord!

We can sure use some help in furnishing the home. If you are led to partner with us, your tax deductible gift would be much appreciated.
